Ranch
operations
This
high desert, 400-acre working ranch has been in continuous operation since
the 1880’s and is located on Juniper Flats near Maupin in Central
Oregon. The ranch consists of fields of tillable land bordered by rocky
patches with juniper trees and wild grasses. We practice dry farming of
wheat because of the arid climate (about 11 inches per year) and lack
of irrigation. Our annual yields range between 22 and 50 bushels (1,320
to 3,000 pounds) per acre - depending on the amount of rain and snow.
We rely on the great farming abilities of the Duling Family to produce
our wheat. We lay claim to a Blue Ribbon at the 2006 Wasco County Fair
for Best Wheat.
In
addition to the wheat, we raise domestic Tibetan Yaks, as well as domestic and
heritage pigs. Our livestock are raised in accordance with free-range
and naturally-raised standards. The beautiful Misty Helen Carter - an
authentic rodeo queen - assists us with our livestock operation.
We
have lots of other dear critters to entertain us - dogs, horses, pigeons,
goats, peacocks, llamas, geese, a duck, honey bees, guinea hens, and chickens.
